We all have those days when we just can’t seem to get anything done–maybe we are tired, or bored with the tasks in front of us, or maybe it’s something that absolutely must get done, yet here we sit, procrastinating and totally unmotivated.
First, take it easy on yourself. We ALL have these days or weeks (hopefully not months).
Next, let’s consider some things to do to stay on track and motivated. This may seem obvious, but make a list. I know I know, you’ve made lists and then you make a list of the list or you lose the list. Use an app on your phone, make a note, email it to yourself. I suggest you number this list in order of importance, better yet, go old school and write on paper with a pencil (gasp!)–that way you can erase and move things around when you need to reprioritize. Remember, if everything is a priority, then nothing is.
Chunk it down! If you are looking at a big project or something that seems overwhelming to you, then chunk it down it to bite size, manageable tasks. Get out a notebook or use your calendar on your computer. Break the task down into two hour or less chunks, finish one task and celebrate! It’s important to celebrate the small successes too.
Start a morning routine and do not compromise. No. Matter. What. If you choose to spend a power hour (20 minutes of exercise, 20 minutes of reading, 20 minutes of self-improvement–or whatever combo of power hour stuff you want to work on) Set it and don’t change it. Don’t take phone calls, write grocery lists, answer emails. Start your day off on your terms and don’t compromise that time. This will set the tone for the rest of your day.
Stay the course!
